2 Day Kayak Class
The first day you'll meet at our
Adventure Headquarters, get fitted with a boat and
equipment, and head off to the lake for your lesson. We
spend the first day on the calm water of the lake
because this gives you the best environment in which to
learn the basic skills required of kayakers. You'll
learn how to be comfortable underwater, how to get out
of the kayak doing what is called the Wet Exit, then
learn balance skills, how to stay upright, an assortment
of paddling strokes, and a lot of practice time to get
these right.

Remember, perfect practice makes perfect,
not just practice. Your instructors will be coaching you
all day! You can finish your first day with the Eskimo
Roll if you want to - the very cool skill to turn
yourself back over after a capsize. It is easier than
you think and we break it down into a very
understandable progression.
Your second day will take you to the river, where you'll
paddle 4-8 miles of the Lehigh River depending on water
levels. All of the practice you've done the first day
pays off as you learn how to read a river rapid and
negotiate a river as safely as possible. The feeling of
accomplishment you'll enjoy is second to none - this is
cool stuff, plain and simple! Once you've blasted your way through the last rapid "Final
Exam", you'll head back to our Adventure Headquarters, jump into dry clothing and tell river stories for the
rest of the day.
